The arrival of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid was celebrated for several reasons, one of which was the excitement of the prospect of him linking up with Vinicius Jr. After all, both players were amongst the best in the world in their position at the time.
However, since last summer, there has been a noticeable decline in the Brazilian superstar’s quality and output. While correlation does not imply causation, the situation around Vinicius is indeed now worrying.
No longer is the Brazilian phenom an undisputed starter at Real Madrid. The managerial change, the arrival of Mbappe and the rejection at the Ballon d’Or all complicate his situation and SPORT now relays that his continuity itself is in question.
As relayed by the outlet, Xabi Alonso was far from convinced by Vinicius’ performance at the Club World Cup and even planned to bench him for the semi-final before changing his mind after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s last-minute injury.

The new manager’s promotion of ‘earning’ one’s place in the lineup, the superstar is now seriously reconsidering his future.
After all, he has lost his connection with fans in recent years and the negotiations for a renewal are not progressing as he had hoped. Despite his recent poor form, Vinicius is demanding a steep hike in his salary to renew at Real Madrid.
Negotiations have been underway for a while now but the two parties are too far apart to even contemplate an agreement. As such, Real Madrid are not ruling out the possibility of a sale.
Offers from Saudi Arabia sound louder than ever before at Vinicius’ camp for the Middle East-based league has parties willing to break the bank for the Brazilian. A transfer fee of over €350 million, after all, is rumoured.
Vinicius’ numbers last season prove that he has been far from his best. While selling him may be premature, one cannot fault Florentino Perez and Co. for pulling the trigger if an exorbitant offer from Saudi Arabia does indeed arrive.
