According to a recent report from AS, it has come to light that David Alaba is determined to reclaim his spot in Real Madrid’s starting XI, particularly for the crucial Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid.
The Austrian defender has been recovering from his recent injury setbacks, and the signs surrounding his fitness are extremely positive. The discomfort in his knee is no longer an issue, and the left adductor problem that sidelined him has completely healed.
It is said that Alaba’s ultimate goal is to start in one of the next three matches, with a strong ambition to feature in at least two. However, achieving that would mean taking the place of Raul Asencio.
Benching Asencio, however, would be a significant decision. Nothing is guaranteed yet, but Alaba is ready to compete for his spot in the starting lineup.
Having already received medical clearance, Alaba was initially set to return as a starter. However, just as he was about to be included in the starting eleven, another setback occurred.

Since then, he has gradually built up match fitness, featuring in brief appearances against Las Palmas, Salzburg, Valladolid, and Brest.
Despite these minutes on the pitch, he has yet to secure a starting role, missing out on what could have been his return against Leganés due to his injury.
Now, his focus is on regaining top condition for the Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid. He no longer feels any discomfort, but he understands that he must be fully match-fit to perform at the highest level.
Interestingly, there is a major challenge ahead—Asencio’s impressive form. The young defender has been one of the most reliable performers in the squad, not just in defence but across the entire team.
His strong displays have created an additional obstacle in Alaba’s path. The decision on who will partner Antonio Rudiger at the back now rests with Carlo Ancelotti, who must choose between experience and consistency in a crucial phase of the season.
