Mikel Jauregizar has emerged as one of the rising stars in La Liga this season. Stemming from Athletic Club’s youth academy, the youngster has risen through the ranks to become a key operator in the first-team.

A central midfielder by trade, Jauregizar has already featured in 22 competitive matches this season, racking up almost 1,400 minutes of action.

Real Madrid keeping tabs

According to Fichajes, Jauregizar’s performances have not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid among the clubs interested in his services.

The report suggests that Real Madrid scouts have watched the young midfielder closely in action several times and are closely monitoring his progress.

Although it is not specifically mentioned whether or not Real Madrid plan to make a move anytime soon, their interest alone is quite significant.

Jauregizar, after all, has impressed onlookers with maturity on the pitch, which has complemented his ability to win back possession and control the tempo of the game.

In many ways, the young Spaniard’s style of play resembles that of Toni Kroos – a player Real Madrid have dearly missed this season.

Recent reports suggests Los Blancos are desperate to sign an ideal replacement for Kroos, with many sources pointing to Martin Zubimendi being the perfect fit.

Mikel Jauregizar, to that end, could be interesting for Real Madrid, especially if the 21-year-old continues his brilliant form so far this season.

That said, the young academy prospect has a long-term contract at Athletic Club, which doesn’t expire until 2027. Hence, it is unlikely that player will be available in the market anytime soon.
