Modrić’s future in Spain’s capital has of course long been considered as being altogether up in the air.

As much comes ahead of the expiration of the Croatian’s current terms upon the season’s close.

Contrasting reports have been in circulation for some time now, regarding the plans of those behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu for their midfield maestro.

Modrić of course remains an important member of Carlo Ancelotti’s ranks, with his exploits over recent months in particular having served as a timely reminder of the brilliance still possessed in the former Tottenham man’s twinkling feet.

The fact of the matter, though, is that Modrić is set to turn 39 later this year, leaving Real Madrid with a major decision to make.

And, as alluded to above, this week, precisely as much has indeed been made.

As per the aforementioned Marca, the plan of Florentino Pérez and co, until recently, was to bid farewell to Modrić in the summer.

The situation, however, has now changed, with the Blancos hierarchy having drawn up the terms of a one-year contract extension, which will imminently be put before the Ballon d’Or winner and his entourage.
