The refereeing appointment for the upcoming Champions League final was on Monday made official.

And it will no doubt have been firmly noted by those in a position of power at La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Los Blancos, for their part, of course booked their spot in yet another European showcase occasion last week, courtesy of a late downing of Bayern Munich.

Another of German football’s top clubs, in turn, await Carlo Ancelotti’s troops in the finale, in the form of a Borussia Dortmund outfit who continue to defy the odds.

The highly-anticipated matchup is set to play out on June 1st, at Wembley Stadium in London.

And it will be overseen by referee Slavko Vinčić.

As much was announced across UEFA’s social media platforms on Monday evening, with the Slovenian having been rewarded for his fine recent performances with the chance to officiate club football’s biggest fixture.

Vinčić, for his part, has run the rule over a major European final before, having been appointed to the 2021/22 Europa League showpiece between Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers.

On the Champions League front, he has refereed 30 fixtures to date, including several in this season’s knockout rounds.

One such outing came in the form of tournament finalists Borussia Dortmund’s quarter-final first-leg victory over Atlético Madrid.

Worth noting, though, is the fact that Vinčić has never taken charge of one of Real Madrid’s fixtures in the Champions League…
