The game against Arsenal exposed the flaws in Real Madrid’s squad and the departments where they continue to fall short in terms of clarity.
It is glaringly clear that the men in white need reinforcements in defence and midfield next summer, but the board are reportedly reluctant to splash the cash given the limited options in terms of players who can leave.
Only three players, moreover, end their contracts this summer – Luka Modric, Lucas Vazquez and Jesus Vallejo. While the centre-back will leave for sure, the situation of the remaining two players is unclear.
As relayed earlier this month, both Vazquez and Modric are awaiting clarity from the club over their contract extensions and it is unclear what Los Blancos will decide on their continuity.
Their current deals, however, run out on 30th June of this year which is before the end of the current season for Real Madrid. After all, Los Blancos are slated to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup which begins in June.

As relayed by AS, Real Madrid will have both Modric and Vazquez for the event and have extended their contracts until July of this year to facilitate the same.
The one-month extension serves purely to ensure their legal availability for the event and does not provide any hints on their future beyond July.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold rumoured to be close to a move to Real Madrid, Vazquez may well leave the club at the end of the season sensing increased competition.
Modric, meanwhile, has shown to have the required quality to stay but the administration must decide if his services are needed for a further year.
In any case, Carlo Ancelotti is not expected to be on the bench for the Club World Cup and it remains to be seen if a new permanent coach is appointed by then or an interim manager takes over.
