Real Madrid have started making plans for the future, and it appears those plans do not include Ferland Mendy.

According to Fichajes, the club is already preparing for life without the French full-back, as doubts continue to grow over his long-term role in the squad.

Mendy’s contract with Real Madrid is set to expire in the summer of 2027, and while he has expressed a strong desire to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, the club is not willing to meet his financial demands.

The board believes that his recent performances do not justify a contract renewal on improved terms.

The left-back has been under scrutiny due to his inconsistent displays, and there is a growing feeling that he is no longer the reliable defensive option the team requires.

Recent struggles

One of the most recent examples of his struggles came in the match against Real Betis. Despite managing to provide an assist, his first after more than 800 days, Mendy was repeatedly exposed defensively.

His duel with Antony highlighted his vulnerabilities, as the opposition winger found plenty of space to exploit on his side.

Defensive instability has been a recurring issue for the Frenchman, raising further concerns about his suitability for a starting role in a club that competes at the highest level.

Real Madrid exploring options

Given these concerns, Real Madrid are actively considering their options for the left-back position. The club wants to bring in a player who can offer greater stability at the back while also contributing effectively to the attack.

Several names have been linked as potential replacements, with Theo Hernandez and Miguel Gutierrez among the candidates being evaluated. However, no final decision has been made yet.

At present, Real Madrid face a crucial decision in the next transfer window. The club knows that next summer presents the final opportunity to sell Mendy for a transfer fee before he becomes a free agent.

The Madrid board has already made their stance clear—unless there is a dramatic turnaround, Mendy will need to look for a new club, or risk being reduced to a secondary role for the remainder of his time at the Bernabeu.
