Real Madrid’s preseason friendly against WSG Tirol last night saw Alvaro Carreras make his official debut for the team and his performance was promising to say the least.

In 63 minutes on the field, he completed 92% of his passes, ten defensive actions and two successful dribbles, showcasing that he can be a real asset for the team this season.

At this point, it is clear that he will be Xabi Alonso’s go-to option at left-back ahead of both Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia.

Carreras’ two cents

Speaking to the media after the game, the debutant expressed his feelings after wearing the Real Madrid shirt once again at long last.

“It’s an honour to wear this shirt again. It’s time to keep preparing for what’s next. I’ve been training with the team these past few days, and they’ve welcomed me very well.”

He then urged the team forward and relish the challenge that lies ahead as the start of the new season approaches.

“Now it’s time to keep preparing hard, as a very exciting challenge lies ahead.”

When asked about the intensity and ruthlessness shown by the team in the pre-season friendly last night, the player simply said,

“We don’t care if it’s a friendly; it was a very important match for us. It’s always important to win.”

Carreras was then asked about how it was playing with Kylian Mbappe and the other stars in the team, to which he said,

“I’ve always said that with teammates like this, football is more beautiful and easier. I’m very happy with all my teammates.”

“With Vini Jr. on the wing, with Huijsen at the back. I’m very happy,” he added.

Finally, the player was asked to reveal what the manager expected from him and what his role would be this season.

“I’m adapting to what the manager is asking for, to what he wants for the players. I think the team is doing very well; we have clear ideas about what we want, and the important thing is to win.”
