In a recent report, Bild mentioned that Real Madrid could try to sign Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano next summer. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to land the France international on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.

Upamecano’s Impressive Form In The Bundesliga

Upamecano had a solid season at the Munich club as he put in a handful of impressive displays for them in the Bundesliga. The 26-year-old featured in 38 matches for Bayern Munich in the previous campaign, scoring two goals and earning two assists in multiple competitions.

The France international was a rock at the back as he made 36 tackles, 17 blocks and 34 interceptions in the Bundesliga. He was accurate when distributing possession from inside his half after completing 93.9% of his attempted passes in the German top flight (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Allianz Arena will run out next summer, which could open the door for Los Blancos to sign him on a free transfer at the end of this season.

Is Upamecano A Decent Fit For Real Madrid Boss Xabi Alonso?

Upamecano is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and can play his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.86m, the French talent can use his robust frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Real Madrid manage to snap him up next summer.

We can expect Upamecano to bring more bite and steel to Los Blancos head coach Xabi Alonso’s defence. He is more than capable of fighting for a regular first-team spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming years.

At 26, Upamecano is about to enter his prime soon. Furthermore, he has less than a year remaining in his Bayern contract and might help the Madrid giants compete for some major trophies in the future. Hence, Upamecano would be a great fit for Real Madrid’s needs next year.
