According to a report from AS, it has been learned that Real Madrid do not expect Dani Ceballos to leave the club this summer, despite his growing desire to return to Real Betis.

The outlet mentions that financial hurdles are playing a key role in making this move unlikely, with Betis unable to afford the transfer even though Ceballos is reportedly willing to lower his salary.

The Spanish midfielder feels increasingly sidelined at Madrid, mainly due to the intense competition in the middle of the park.

With players like Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni, Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, and Arda Guler all vying for places, Ceballos sees fewer chances to play regularly.

Even though Bellingham is out for several months, Guler has stepped up in the attacking midfield role, further complicating Ceballos’ chances of becoming a regular starter.

For Ceballos, a move back to Betis is more than just a return to a former club as it is about playing time and reigniting his international career.

With the 2026 World Cup in sight, he knows that being a squad player at Madrid will not be enough to stay on Luis de la Fuente’s radar. A return to his boyhood club could provide him the minutes and influence he needs to be in contention.

However, Real Madrid’s stance is clear that they will only consider his departure if a suitable replacement is secured. For now, no such player has been identified, and the financial aspect remains a major obstacle for Betis.

As things stand, the only route to a transfer may be Ceballos himself formally requesting to leave, using his desire to play, the national team ambitions, and a return home as arguments.

But even that may not be enough to push the move through, at least for now. The situation remains unresolved, but Madrid are not actively looking to sell unless the conditions drastically change.
