Manchester City supporters have been handed a significant hint over their latest pending transfer by the player himself, as Rayan Cherki spoke on Thursday.
The France international was speaking fresh off the back of an outstanding performance for his country on Thursday evening, in which he clawed his side back into a UEFA Nations League clash with Spain.
Scoring a remarkable half-volley to narrow the scoring, Cherki would then turn provider for another late goal despite narrowly missing out on a place in the Final where Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva were awaiting with Portugal.
It was a special insight into exactly the sort of match-changing qualities Manchester City are so determined to secure this summer, as club bosses go about bringing Rayan Cherki to the club in time for the start of the FIFA Club World Cup.
And with personal terms already understood to be in place between the Frenchman and officials at the Etihad Stadium, only an agreement over a transfer fee remains to be shaken upon as dialogue continues with Ligue 1 side Lyon.
Now, speaking to French television broadcasters after his goal and assist for France in a narrow 5-4 defeat to Spain, Rayan Cherki was quizzed on where he will be playing his football next season.
“Yes, it is taking shape,” Cherki said of his club future. “But you know my response, everyone knows it.”
He continued, “But there is still a match to play (against Germany on Sunday).
“Now, we have to make the most of it and give everything.”
A deal should ultimately go through at around the £35 million mark between Manchester City and Olympique Lyonnais, making the exciting attacking midfielder the third arrival into the Etihad before the June 10 deadline.
AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders and Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri are both expected to undergo medicals with the club over the course of the weekend, before penning the various documentation to formally make themselves Pep Guardiola’s newest stars.
The Catalan coach is set to return to training at the City Football Academy with players not called-up to represent their nations on Monday, with Manchester City due to jet out to Florida later in the week for the start of the FIFA Club World Cup.
