Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has shut down speculation that a contract renewal with the club is stalling over his excessive salary demands.

Rashford’s current deal expires in 2024, and United are working hard to try and tie down the forward to a new long-term deal.

The 25-year-old has arguably been the player of the season for the Red Devils, and the club is wary of losing him at a cut-price deal or worse on a free transfer.

However, negotiations have stalled, prompting interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid who are closely monitoring the player’s situation.

It is no secret that United may need to break the bank to retain the services of their academy graduate, prompting accusations that the player is holding out for a deal that would make him the club’s highest earner.

However, Rashford has taken to his official Twitter account to debunk those rumours, insisting that he is solely focused on finishing the season strongly with United.

“Just before this one starts to do the rounds! It’s complete nonsense,” Rashford said in a defiant tweet.

“The club and make self (sic) have been respectful to one another, and that’s how it will remain. My focus is purely on finishing as well as possible in the league and winning trophies.”

The England international has enjoyed an explosive campaign with 27 goals and nine assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.

He has also won the club’s player of the month award three times in a row, highlighting his undoubted influence in Erik ten Hag’s side.

Rashford was at the heart of United’s Carabao Cup success notching six goals in the tournament, including a first-half strike in the final triumph over Newcastle United.

He was initially named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for their European Championship qualifiers but withdrew after picking up a knock in United’s dramatic 3-1 FA Cup success over Fulham.
