Ezri Konsa has hailed the performances of Marcus Rashford and Aston Villa after the club’s 3-0 win at Brighton.

Unai Emery’s team boosted their Champions League hopes with a comfortable win over rival contenders Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Rashford opened the scoring with his first league goal for the club on the counter-attack, before further strikes from fellow January recruits Marco Asensio and Donyell Malen wrapped up the win.

Victory was Villa’s sixth straight win in all competitions and lifts the club to seventh – three points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City. Konsa praised the performance from his team and urged Villa to keep going, ahead of Saturday’s crucial clash at home to high-flying Nottingham Forest.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the England defender said: “We knew this was an important game for us, it was must win. We came to win and that’s what we did. The Champions League is the main goal. We’ll focus on Saturday, another big one for us.

“I thought defensively we were excellent. All 11 of us stuck together. I didn’t feel threatened at all. We managed to get them on the counter-attack a few times and we got a few goals.

“It was the desire from everyone. We’ve kept a few clean sheets in a row. In the last few games we’ve shown we can do it.”

Konsa reserved added praise for Rashford, who followed his brace against Preston in the FA Cup at the weekend with the opener at Brighton. He said the on-loan Manchester United forward is ‘enjoying his football again’ after a tough period at Old Trafford.

“He’s got a smile on his face again. He looks like he’s enjoying football again. I’m so pleased for him.

“We have to take it game by game. Now it’s all eyes on Saturday.”
