A potentially noteworthy development behind the scenes at Barcelona has been noted, on the back of the club’s meeting with Las Palmas.
This comes amid the revelation that, after being introduced to proceedings on Saturday, Frenkie de Jong was not handed the captain’s armband.
The Dutchman, for his part, was announced as Barcelona’s third captain over the summer.
With Marc-André ter Stegen and Ronald Araújo sidelined at present, De Jong has therefore taken on the armband on each occasion on which he has taken to the pitch this season.
That is, until this past weekend…
As confirmed by Mundo Deportivo, en route to the Blaugrana’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Las Palmas:
‘Frenkie de Jong came on and, contrary to what has happened on previous occasions, Raphinha did not give him the armband, but continued to act as captain until the end.’
Amid ongoing speculation surrounding De Jong’s future in Catalunya’s capital, could this mark a significant development in Hansi Flick’s squad?
