Manchester United are prepared to pay €60 million for Barcelona star Raphinha and he is becoming more open to the possibility, a new report claims.

The wing play fans have seen this season at Old Trafford has left a lot to be desired.

United fans have seen some of the greatest and most electrifying wingers in world football like George Best, Steve Coppell, Andrei Kanchelskis, Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo glide down both flanks of the famous old stadium.

Therefore, the form of the 2023/2024 class is particularly hard to swallow for most fans. Alejandro Garnacho has played well but at 19 years of age, his performances have been understandably erratic. Marcus Rashford has endured possibly his toughest ever season and in spite of improved recent performances, Antony has proven to be a colossal waste of money.

INEOS have been linked with bringing in a winger to address these issues and it is widely reported that Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise is the player they see as the best option to fix what is wrong with United’s wide play.

However, Fichajes state that a longer-term target may be the answer INEOS are searching for.

The Spanish outlet states that due to Barcelona’s financial woes, the Blaugrana would need to seriously consider an offer from Old Trafford for Raphinha.

“It appears the Red Devils are willing to shell out a sizeable sum, at least €60 million, for the player, viewing him as a viable option to fill a potential void in their forward line, especially if star Marcus Rashford decides to depart.”

“Reports suggest that Manchester United are prepared to make a tempting offer for Raphinha as they see in him the ability to play a crucial role in their team.”

Interestingly, it is also claimed that the 27 year old, who played for two seasons with Leeds United in England, could be more tempted to leave Spain than he has been in the past.

“Despite his recent good performance with Barcelona, Raphinha could be tempted to seek new horizons, especially at a time when his future at the club could be compromised due to financial reasons. Although he initially did not seem interested in leaving the Camp Nou, interest from Manchester United and other Premier League clubs could change his outlook.”

He impressed immensely in Barcelona’s defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, scoring three goals over the two legs, and has found the net nine times in all competitions.

The tricky winger has also provided 12 assists for his side.

The Red Devils have been linked with him in the past and it was confirmed by the player himself that United were on the verge of signing him back in 2022.

It was also reported back in March that Erik ten Hag’s side had once again firmed up their interest by reaching an agreement in principle to sign him but this proved to be untrue.

Nonetheless, with Barca’s valuation of him dropping and the winger more interested in a move, perhaps he would be a good option to bolster the wings. He has experience playing in the Premier League with Leeds but also the pressure cooker environment of a top club like Barcelona.

With the Catalans desperate to sell to ease their economic concerns, the Camp Nou exit door will be an interesting place to keep an eye on during this summer window.
