Kai Havertz is the top earner in Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad following his summer move from Chelsea – but how do his wages stack up against his team-mates’?

The Gunners have spent in the region of €688million on new signings since Arteta was appointed as manager back in December 2019. Their current squad is valued at just over €1billion in transfer market value, which is only bettered by the reigning European champions Manchester City – according to Transfermarkt.

The club’s annual wage bill is estimated to be in the region of £173million a year, which makes it the third biggest in the Premier League behind Manchester City and Manchester United, and seventh-biggest in Europe’s major leagues, bettered by PSG, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

Arteta has overseen a remarkable rise at the Emirates in recent times, having guided them to second place last season – and in the process qualifying them for the Champions League for the first time in seven years.

The club have made ambitious moves to consolidate their place in English football’s top four, with five of their seven top earners having signed their current terms at some point in 2023.

Top earner Havertz has signed a deal believed to be in the region of £280,000-a-week after his big-money transfer from Chelsea, while fellow new face Declan Rice is the club’s third highest earner with reported wages of £240,000 per week.

Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli have all signed improved, lengthier deals earlier this year, tying down their futures at the Emirates.

“I think I have everything I need to become the best player I can be, and that’s why I’m happy to stay here and be here for the future, because I really believe that we can achieve big things,” Saka said after signing his contract extension back in May.

“We have gone through the season and we have tied down a very important part of the team and that’s what we wanted to do. This never stops, they keep evolving and developing,” added Arteta, teasing further extensions.

Aaron Ramsdale and Saliba have both signed new contracts since then, and you imagine that club captain Martin Odegaard – who sits just outside the club’s top 10 earners – will be one of the next on the agenda. The Norwegian playmaker’s current contract expires in 2025.
