Arsenal’s rise under Mikel Arteta in recent years is underlined by how much their current squad is valued at.

Transfermarkt currently value Arsenal’s squad as the second most valuable in world football, behind Manchester City, with a worth of €976million. That’s quite some going, with Arteta’s current squad built on considerably less than that.

That’s thanks to the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and William Saliba shining for the Gunners and seeing their market value rise exponentially since they were originally signed.

There’s also the jewel in the crown, Bukayo Saka, who is Arsenal’s most prized asset after breaking through from their Hale End academy.

Saka isn’t the only homegrown player to be worth a small fortune. The likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson would make the club massive profits were they to sell them on.

And Arteta believes that things can only improve from here. The Gunners boss backed his key men to keep getting better after finishing runners-up to Manchester City last season.

“We don’t have a single player that has reached their peak, no one. And we as coaches have to be curious to understand what can we do to improve them,” the Spanish coach told reporters back in May.

“They can empower each other and take their game to different levels. It’s about everything clicking, and getting into players and getting something else out of them.

“There are certain players that have to go to a different level in terms of leadership, what they transmit to the group, and in terms of responsibility and accountability for what happens here every single day.

“There’s a lot to do. But the players are the protagonists and we have to try to give them the tools that they can then know how to manipulate. There are moments to put those players in those moments, but now is not the moment in my opinion.”

There are some costly exceptions – most notably Nicolas Pepe – while midfield duo Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka have seen their value fall as they move further into their thirties.
