Rangers close in on Hampden for home matches

Rangers are closing in on a Hampden venue for next season’s home fixtures after a deal was ‘struck’ with the SFA to accommodate Rangers at Scotland’s national stadium.

While there had been some murmurs that Murrayfield might be used, the complicated logistics of Rangers playing home matches in Edinburgh meant that Hampden, due to its close proximity to Ibrox, was a much better choice.

It does of course hark back to the late 90s when Celtic also had to occupy Scotland’s national stadium for an entire two seasons while Parkhead was being completely rebuilt into the 60,000-seater ground it is now, but of course that was entirely planned and prepared.

This is last-minute panic and a last resort for a situation that should never have arisen in the first place but due to poor planning and a massive gaffe by club bosses, Rangers have been forced into this position which is going to cost the club a fair few quid alright.

But the fact is a deal is close to make Hampden the temporary home of Rangers for the next few weeks/months as the Copland Road Stand finally gets the renovation it needs, with work slated to start at the end of the month.

What a mess.
