Rangers’ Clement left fuming by passport oversight from club

Rangers manager Philippe Clement was left fuming by the one blip on an otherwise excellent Thursday evening for Rangers, as the Belgian seethed and couldn’t hide his rage.

Rangers strolled to an outstanding 0-2 win in Sweden, thanks to goals from Nedim Bajrami and Ross McCausland, but it was a club admin glitch that Clement was raging with.

Rangers’ ‘red tape’ section overlooked clerical issues with striker Hamza Igamane and his passport, and were left unaware his Moroccan passport required a separate visa for entry into Sweden in a policy unique to that country called the Schengen agreement.

Instead, a slightly red-faced Philippe Clement was livid as Rangers’ clerical overlooked this and the former FAR RABAT striker was left unable to travel meaning that sadly he had to stay behind as the group travelled.

This was pretty amateur from the club in truth – sure, you can’t account for every single eventuality, but it cost Clement an option from the bench, even if, thankfully, Rangers were comfortable in the end without him.

Clement said:

“I was not happy about that, clearly not. There were issues with his passport. Those are situations you don’t want to face as a manager – but I want to focus now on the football and the good things tonight.”

For once we agree entirely. This was a screw-up, no two ways about it, and Rangers were ill-prepared.

Thankfully it all worked out in the end.
