Rangers’ biggest weapon against Man Utd is actually Ruben Amorim | OneFootball

Everyone seems to be laughing at Man United, and some of their fans are beginning to worry about taking on Rangers.

But I have to say, I actually think things are not as bad at Man United as most pundits believe.

Like Nice, they have very good players.

But unlike Nice their problem is not a complete lack of tactics. You may remember I was scathing in my assessment about Nice.

No, Man United is a different challenge. They are very well drilled team, with very good players.

The problem is, and this is a big one, Ruben Amorim is very positional minded, and he is now trying to create a very strict, very rigid 3-4-2-1, that is similar to the structure he used in Porto.

The issue is the team he has taken over at Man United are all, by instinct ,the type of players that love to mix things up. Think Clement when he first arrived at Rangers.

Man Utd have players who like to rapidly switch positions, to confuse their opponents. The same way Rangers used to play under Gerrard, and now Clement is now just starting to deploy in the last few matches .

Think Hagi, and why he could not get a game at the beginning of Clement’s reign, Clement dismissed him, because he was a thinker. Hagi is not a positional player. But now Hagi is in the team and is interchanging between midfield and the wing. This is something Clement would have gone bonkers about three months ago. It is just a pity that we will not have Hagi available for this game, because this is a game where Hagi would have thrived.

But this is why confusion is setting in.

What I am seeing, with this Man Utd team, is because their new manager’s strict tactics are running against everything his players love about the game; the Man United players are playing like they are shackled.

And just now there is just no instinct. Their play is slow. It is methodical, when it really needs to be dynamic.

And because they have to try to play Ruben’s strict tactics, tactics, TACTICS which they absolutely hate, they often need to take between 3 to 5 seconds to just make a pass. This is because they constantly need to wait for their team mates to get into the correct positions, and at the highest levels in football, 3 to 5 seconds is suicidal.

What we are now seeing is in their games, where the opponents are not afraid of the English League’s reputation, and are willing to go toe to toe, this Man United just cannot handle a high press. That is why the Man Utd fans are worried, but just now they are not concerned. This is because they know Rangers come from a Pub league, and Man Utd will easily hammer us 5-0.

So, let’s show them what a real pub team can do. Yes, we do not have Hagi in our Europa squad, because of how stupid and arrogant our board and management team has been, but we have more than enough experience to handle this Man Utd team.

We just need to be careful. These Man United players are all insanely skillful, and when they are under pressure, sometimes their natural instinct just kicks in, and they will briefly revert to fluid football.

When that happens they can suddenly hit their opponents hard on the counter. Our task is to make sure they keep rigidly to their Ruben Amorim’s tactics and they kill themselves with boredom.

Things to watch out for. They are weak against defending against a ball over the top, and their attack down the wings (just now) is also weak. Thus, control of the midfield will be essential. I expect their biggest threat to come through the center.

In terms of the Europa League, a draw is all we now need to take us through to the next round and two wins will be required to ensure a top 8 position. Man Utd is already guaranteed a place in the next round.

Prediction is a 2-1 win.
