QS: Sozza confirmed as referee for Inter-Milan despite Milanese background | OneFootball

Simone Sozza has been named as the referee for Inter vs. AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana final, despite his Milanese background.

Tomorrow, Sergio Conceicao has a chance to write his name into the Milan history books in just his second game. A chance to win the first Supercoppa in almost 10 years, and a chance to beat Inter in the process. In other words, it could be a dream start.

Should the result go in another direction though, the backlash would be minimal. After all, the Rossoneri are undergoing a period of transition, and there cannot be pressure on a new head coach to perform near miracles in his second game in charge.

Furthering this, the Portuguese is having to deal with a host of injuries and wider squad issues, which could represent a disadvantage for his team. However, he has once again repeated that he will not make any excuses for his team, despite admitting that there are several issues to deal with in his press conference.

Last night, Quotidiano Sportivo reported that the referee for the game will be Sozza, who was born and raised in Milano. The official has previously officiated games including either team (8) whilst also leading Inter’s 5-1 dismantling of the Rossoneri in September 2023.
