FLW’s Hoops fan pundit has set his price for the young midfielder

Espanyol have tested QPR’s resolve with a bid worth up to £5 million for midfielder Jonathan Varane - an offer the R’s are widely expected to reject.
The 23-year-old, signed for £875,000 from Sporting Gijón last summer, has gone from a shaky start to becoming a standout performer in Marti Cifuentes’ midfield.
With 39 league appearances, a long-term contract signed last month, and a growing reputation, Varane has quickly become a vital part of QPR’s plans.
Speaking to Football League World, QPR fan pundit Louis Moir believes Jonathan Varane has the quality to succeed in La Liga - but insists Espanyol’s £5 million offer is nowhere near enough to tempt the Hoops into selling.
“Well I think, quite frankly, that £5 million offer from Espanyol for Varane - that just can't be taken seriously,” Moir told us.
“Yes you could argue - for a player we only signed last summer for around maybe the £1 million mark - getting a bid already for £5 million, it shows how good the player's been, and how good of a signing it's been as well.
“But you know, with the ability Varane showed for the most part of last season, the potential he's still got, I think he's definitely more than good enough to play in the Spanish league, but for that price, we shouldn't even be giving that a thought.
“If they were to triple that price maybe, or around that figure, then maybe you could look at it, but there’s no chance he'd go for more than anything around that region.
“I mean, fingers crossed we get to see him for at least another season at QPR but he's one of our best players, and he's probably going to be one of our most important players next season as well.
“Like I say, around that £12m+ plus mark is what the club would look at, if that offer ever was to come in, but if he sort of kicks on and does even better next season then we've got a player on our hands that could be worth a lot of money, and I think you'd have bigger clubs looking at him as well.
“So, to get an offer like that is just silly really. No one would value him around that at all, and I think it's obvious that the club would turn that down.
“With business now under Nourry compared to when we had Les Ferdinand and that, you have so much faith in players who are going to get sold - and that's football - but I think now we'll get the right money and what we deserve for these players, unlike what we’ve seen in the past few years.
“But also I think it shows how well the recruitment has been overall under Nouri already - you get a player of Varane's potential and quality, and you're already getting a bid upwards of £5 million, when you've only bought him for around the £1 million mark, so it just shows we're doing things properly now, and hopefully it continues with players coming into and out of the club.”
It’s clear QPR fans see Jonathan Varane as much more than a quick profit opportunity.
With his best years ahead of him and a strong foundation now in place under sporting director Nouri, there’s a growing sense that QPR must build around players like Varane - not cash in early.
His development last season, capped by a new long-term contract, shows he’s not only settled at Loftus Road but thriving.
Letting him go now, especially for a modest fee, would feel like a step backwards.
As transfer speculation swirls, the message from West London is simple: hands off, unless the price is truly right.
