Football fans have become used to the overreaction of players when they pick up an injury on the pitch. The scream followed by the rolling around as if they have just been shot by a sniper. Only to get up a minute later and be completely fine.

And arguably the biggest culprit fans have seen of this over the last decade is Brazilian star Neymar.

One of the greatest players in the modern era, but one who is often criticised for the way he tries to buy fouls with his theatrics on the pitch.

And last night, he was up to his old tricks yet again as Paris Saint-Germain played Marseille in the cup, and the speed at which he recovers is rather impressive to watch.

Neymar's antics during PSG vs Marseille

Neymar started in last night’s Le Classique in the Coupe de France. Paired alongside another PSG star player in Lionel Messi, it was their job to find a way through Marseille’s defence.

But in the first half, Neymar picked the ball up 15 yards outside his area and found a Marseille defender close behind. As he tried to hold the ball up, another Marseille player appeared to tackle him cleanly to win the ball.

What does Neymar do? The same thing he always does. Goes down with an apparent injury to try and win the free-kick as Marseille counter high up the pitch.

But then, PSG turn the ball over on the edge of their area, with the ball landing at the feet of Messi. As it reaches the Argentinian, Neymar miraculously heals and proceeds to sprint at full tilt to try and lead a counter.

His efforts were in vain as Marseille steal the ball back off Messi, but talk about the healing powers of football.

The healing power of football is truly something to behold," "He even went full sprint lmao," "He has to be the least likeable player I know," "It would have been hilarious if he went back to ground right after they lost it again" and "Pretends to be shocked" were just a few comments on Reddit reacting to the miraculous recovery.

PSG crash out of the cup

Neymar’s recovery could not save PSG from being eliminated in the round of 16, as they lost 2-1 to Marseille.

The visitors went behind when Sergio Ramos brought down Cengiz Under in PSG’s penalty area, with Alexis Sanchez converting from the spot.

Ramos made amends just before half-time, though, with Neymar assisting the Spaniard. The Brazilian had struck the post earlier in the half, but his corner found the head of Ramos who guided the ball past the goalkeeper in added time.

But midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi then restored Marseille’s lead with a ferocious effort. A bouncing ball fell to him on the edge of the area which he smacked past Gianluigi Donnarumma and into the roof of the goal.

The brilliance of Neymar and Messi could not stop the 14-time cup winners from being eliminated. Marseille, who are currently second in Ligue 1, will hope they can win a first Coupe de France since 1989.
