PSG are struggling to find an ideal area to build their future stadium, according to a report from Le Parisien. The Ligue 1 champions have confirmed, through their president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, that their historic Parc des Princes home was no longer fit for purpose. The ECA chairman also added that building a massive new state-of-the-art stadium was vital to PSG’s long-term interest. Al-Khelaifi and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo also don’t see eye-to-eye regarding the Parc des Princes. The former accuses the latter of having lied to him about the possibility of selling the ground to Les Parisiens.
As it stands, the plug has been pulled regarding any extension work at the Parc des Princes with PSG looking to close the gap on their European rivals, who boast modern and privately-owned 60,000+ grounds and increase their revenue streams. Le Parisien reports that different architectural agencies are working on PSG’s new home and that Al-Khelaifi is “in awe” of the different models of modular-designed stadiums ranging between 50,000 and 90,000 seats he was shown.
PSG also plan on building shops, restaurants, a clinic and a smaller stadium – for the women’s team – next to their new ground. The outlet understands that Al-Khelaifi is aware that this €1bn+ project will take nearly a decade before its completion. However, PSG don’t really know yet where to start given their struggles to find a location in the Greater Paris area that meets all their criteria. PSG’s new home should have good road and transport connections and be as close as possible to Paris and PSG’s state-of-the-art training centre in Poissy.
