Manchester United’s interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte seems to be fading. The deal has hit a snag because the two clubs can’t agree on a transfer fee, leading the Red Devils to consider other options.

James Ducker from The Telegraph recently reported that Manchester United have explored several midfield options after moving away from Ugarte. They’re considering players Sander Berge, Richard Ríos, Martín Zubimendi, and Sofyan Amrabat.

However, there’s another target on the Red Devils’ radar as Luca Bianchin from La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the Premier League side has been proposed an ambitious project to midfielder Youssouf Fofana, who is also attracting interest from AC Milan.

The Manchester Evening News’ Isaac Seelochan stated that Fofana would be a mistake for the Red Devils to pursue and if that’s the top alternative target then it would be ideal to pay the transfer that PSG want for Ugarte.

“Youssouf Fofana mainly plays as a central midfielder rather than in defensive midfield, which needs to be United’s priority,” Seelochan said. “But he can still be used in that position, and if United are looking for someone who can cover the entire midfield, then Fofana may be a smart signing.

“However, aged 25 and having never played outside of France, there has to be a question mark over whether he can make the step up to the Premier League. Manual Ugarte is likely to be a better signing but that deal looks to be off.”

As the summer transfer window draws to a close in a few weeks, it will be interesting to see whether Manchester United go for an alternative or decide to put the money for Ugarte.
