According to Le Parisien, Paris Saint-Germain are reluctant to allow Warren Zaïre-Emery (18) to go to the Olympics with the France U23s.

The midfielder had largely been suspected as one of the few players at an elite club that Thierry Henry could reliably select. A Parisian playing in Paris, there would be few honours higher than letting him compete at an Olympics set to take place in his hometown.

As Zaïre-Emery stated at the UNFP awards, “What more could you dream of? The Euro, Olympics, the baccalauréat… I want to do everything to be ready, whether it is on or off the field. And I will do it. Mentally I’m strong.”

However, PSG are far less keen on the prospect of their midfielder being selected for the Summer Games, as they already have concerns about the strain that this season has had on the young player. They’ve noted a drop in performances since January and will likely be worried about the prospect of the midfielder having a very limited recuperation period ahead of the next season.

2022 World Cup might guide PSG’s Warren Zaïre-Emery choice

The club’s experiences with players returning from the 2022 World Cup will likely inform their final decision. PSG believe that the winter tournament had an effect on the team’s performances in the second half of the season, with Kylian Mbappé and Achraf Hakimi struggling with injuries, while Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, and Marquinhos appeared drained from the tournament.
