Real Madrid are close to finalising the signing of Alvaro Carreras, the 22-year-old left-back currently playing for SL Benfica.
An agreement between the two clubs has been reached for the transfer, with the Spanish defender set to undergo his medicals today before the move is finalised.
With the arrival of the former academy player, Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso will have three left-backs in the squad: Carreras, Fran Garcia, and Ferland Mendy.
As such, one of the two existing left-backs might have to leave, with Mendy emerging as the likely candidate after Garcia made the most of his chances at the FIFA Club World Cup.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Ferland Mendy has no intention of leaving Real Madrid this summer, creating a problem for Xabi Alonso.

The 30-year-old left-back was absent for the Club World Cup as he continued to recover from an injury he sustained in the latter stages of the 2024/25 season.
Overall, throughout the course of the campaign, Mendy missed more than 20 matches with three separate injuries – a major concern for Los Blancos.
The idea is for Alonso to bet on Carreras while Garcia has also proven himself to be a good fit in the new manager’s setup.
As such, it makes sense that Real Madrid wish to offload Mendy, more so given his high salary and age.
The report adds that Mendy has suitors in France and the Premier League. But the 30-year-old Frenchman has no intentions to leave the club at this moment, posing an issue for Los Blancos.
