As always, strikers with a track record of any kind in the Premier League are set to be in hot demand this summer.
From the top of the table down to the bottom, everyone is always looking to add goals, and even scoring just a handful is enough to get multiple teams really interested, especially in a younger player. So we’re not surprised to see Liam Delap being named regularly as a target for numerous teams.
He’s young, he’s got all the tools, and he plays for a team who are likely to be relegated, making him very achievable as a target. CaughtOffside say he could be sold for as little as £40m if Ipswich go down, which is looking very likely now.
We’d expect the bidding to start there, but end up significantly higher. He’s got 10 goals, he’s only just turned 22 and is home grown. Surely he doesn’t go for less than £50m, or potentially much more.

In terms of rivals, it’s interesting to see Newcastle named as major competition, given that in Alexander Isak they have one of the other most coveted strikers in the division. This could signal that they’re accepting it’s very likely the Swede moves this summer, with numerous teams from Arsenal to the Blues themselves linked with the exceptional former Real Sociedad player.
We would dearly love to see Chelsea sign Isak – perhaps even more than we’d like to see them sign Delap. But at 25 and at the absolute peak of his value, it feels unlikely that our sporting directors consider him a valid target.
We need a striker from somewhere though, that’s a need that can’t be ignored for another year.
