Looking at this Newcastle team v Burnley.

Eddie Howe and his players knowing a victory will take them into sixth spot and two points clear of Man U, who play Monday night at Crystal Palace.

Newcastle would also move five points clear of Chelsea, who are at home to West Ham on Sunday.

In this race for sixth spot, Newcastle United also with a vastly superior goal difference, 18 better than Man U, superior by 13 to Chelsea.

So what can we expect the Newcastle team v Burnley to be?

As a starting point, this was the Newcastle team v Sheffield United:

Dubravka, Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall, Longstaff, Bruno, Anderson, J Murphy, Gordon, Isak

Eddie Howe gave an injury and availability update on Friday morning.

The NUFC Head Coach said that Fabian Schar definitely wouldn’t be available today and that Kieran Trippier could potentially be back playing in one or more of the final three matches, though not this one.

However, better news on Almiron, Joelinton and Pope. Eddie Howe saying that all three have been training this week and a decision was going to be made after Friday’s training session, as to whether one or more of them could be considered for today’s matchday squad.

Anyway, my take on all of this after the above, my best guesstimate of the Newcastle team v Burnley…

Dubravka, Livramento, Krafth, Burn, Hall, Longstaff, Bruno, Anderson, Barnes, Gordon, Isak

So that would be two changes from the Sheffield United match.

With Krafth and Barnes coming in for Schar and Murphy.

I don’t see any chance of Pope, Almiron or Joelinton going into the starting eleven.

Which appears to make the choice of Dubravka and his back four very straightforward.

Elsewhere in the team, not that many options either, unless you did believe that Eddie Howe might put say Joelinton or Almiron straight in.

Callum Wilson looked sharp and took his goal well last Saturday when coming off the bench but Alexander Isak surely starts. You could make a case possibly for starting both of them but I think we can take it for granted that the NUFC boss will want to keep his usual back up plan of Wilson able to come off the bench. Especially if Newcastle aren’t leading and in control.

Which then pretty much leaves it as one choice to be made, in my opinion.

Will Eddie Howe start Harvey Barnes or Jacob Murphy?

Apart from the excellent pass for Isak’s first goal against the Blades, I thought Murphy was poor last weekend. Barnes came on and got the assist for Wilson’s goal.

My money is on Barnes to play alongside Isak and Gordon in an attacking trio that can hopefully exploit Burnley’s weaknesses as the home side go for the win they desperately need, if to stand any chance of dodging relegation.
