The new Massimiliano Allegri era kicks off at Milan as they host newly promoted Cremonese in their Serie A opener tonight.
Milan hope to have a strong and consistent season under Allegri after sacking Paulo Fonseca and Sergio Conceicao over the course of the last campaign. The 2011 Scudetto-winning manager returns to the Rossoneri to lift them from this precarious situation. While Milan lifted the Supercoppa Italiana during the previous campaign and reached the Coppa Italia final, they were still a long way away from challenging the top four in the Serie A. Milan defeated Bari last week to progress through to the second round of the Italian domestic cup competition, but the league brings a new challenge, one they must navigate carefully.
Meanwhile, Cremonese returned to the Italian top flight after a year-long hiatus. They managed two draws against Milan during the 2022-23 season, and a reversal of the scorelines over this campaign against them would prove massive for this newly promoted side. Cremonese featured in Coppa Italia action this past week, but they bowed out of the competition following a defeat on penalties against Palermo.
Here are the predicted line-ups for the teams:
Milan (3-5-2): Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Saelemaekers, Jashari, Ricci, Modric, Estupinan; Pulisic, Gimenez.
Cremonese (3-5-2): Audero; Terracciano, Baschirotto, Bianchetti; Zerbin, Grassi, Bondo, Vandeputte, Pezzella; Bonazzoli, De Luca.
