Predicted Arsenal starting XI v Man City

Arsenal will look to maintain their impressive form in the Premier League when they take on Manchester City on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners are six points behind Liverpool at the top of the table, and if they drop further points against the current champions, it could prove to be a massive blow to the title hopes, especially with the Reds having a game in hand.

In the previous fixture between the two sides, John Stones scored a late goal as Man City drew 2-2 at the Etihad Stadium. City have spent lavishly in the January transfer window, and they are once again showing signs of resurgence (undefeated in last six Premier League games) under Pep Guardiola after a torrid run of form.

Arsenal are heading into this game on the back of a 2-1 win against Girona in the Champions League. With that victory, the Gunners qualified for the round of 16. Man City will have to win against Real Madrid to progress through to the next round.

Mikel Arteta is expected to make several changes from the last game. David Raya has a slight muscular issue, but he should be able to shake it off and start in goal.

In the absence of Ben White through injury, Jurrien Timber has been filling in at right-back. He should return to the starting line-up as well.

Gabriel Magalhaes is a constant presence at the back, and William Saliba should also return to the side.

At left-back, Arteta needs to make a decision. Riccardo Calafiori scored the winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers and he is available. At the same time, the Gunners have been boosted after Myles Lewis-Skelly’s controversial red card was rescinded.

The young defender was dismissed during last week’s win over Wolves. The VAR felt that it was a violent conduct. Arsenal submitted an appeal and they won, and the defender is now ready to play. He should start ahead of Calafiori.

In midfield, Mikel Merino, 28, is likely to make way for Declan Rice, who needs to step up and dominate the midfield.

Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz are expected to start. Thus, Arteta could make seven changes from the previous game.

Arsenal predicted XI: Raya, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly, Odegaard, Partey, Rice, Trossard, Martinelli, Havertz.

Arsenal’s home game against Manchester City is arguably one of the biggest games of the season as a Category A fixture, with tickets at a premium. For Arsenal fans looking to attend the home game against Man City, or subsequent home games against West Ham and Chelsea, they can purchase Arsenal hospitality tickets and ensure a premium experience at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal won against Man City at home 1-0 last season, and they are likely to edge out their opponent with a similar scoreline.
