Ajax manager Francesco Farioli is happy with Oliver Edvardsen. The 26-year-old Norwegian has impressed as a substitute and continues to prove himself after joining from Go Ahead Eagles.
Since his transfer from the Deventer club, Edvardsen has appeared in eight Eredivisie matches as a substitute for the Amsterdammers, scoring four times. On average for Ajax, he scores a goal every 50 minutes in the Eredivisie.
Including his figures at Go Ahead, he scores an average of 0.99 goals per 90 minutes this Eredivisie season. Only Ricardo Pepi at PSV (1.45) and Mexx Meerdink of AZ Alkmaar (1.22) have done better.
At his most recent press conference, Farioli expertly avoided the question of what else Edvardsen needs to do to get a starting spot, according to Voetbal International.
“For me, it was very clear that he had the profile we were looking for. He is a very effective player, and he is very task-oriented. He has a good feel for the game and always tries to help the team. In the last few days, when the transfer market is still open, you have to look very carefully. He came in very modestly and tried to make his contribution.
“He did that very well. As a substitute, but also in the two matches he was in the starting line-up in the Europa League. Against Union Saint-Gilloise, he provided the assist for Rasmussen’s goal. He is getting used to wearing the Ajax shirt and is responding very well to our requests.”
On Sunday, Ajax will play FC Utrecht. Farioli did not want to say whether a number of substitutes from last Sunday will now start in the starting line-up.
