The Whites take on Oxford United at Elland Road on Saturday in the Sky Bet Championship.

Ahead of the fixture, we take a look back through the years and pick out a starting XI from the players who have worn the shirts of both clubs.

GOALKEEPER:

Jamie Ashdown

Ashdown signed for Leeds United in 2012 where he played as a backup ‘keeper until 2014 and made eight appearances for the Whites during his time with the club. Following his departure, he had a spell with Crawley Town before signing for Oxford United in League Two in February 2015. Ashdown featured in net five times for the U’s and was released at the end of the 2014-15 campaign.

DEFENDER:

Chris Whyte

The former Arsenal defender signed for Leeds United in 1990 and went onto become a key component in LUFC’s 1991/92 First Division title winning campaign. In 1993, Whyte left the club with 147 appearances and six goals to his name. In 1997, Whyte signed for Oxford United. Where he played 10 games but departed the club the same year.

DEFENDER:

Michael Duberry

Duberry put pen to paper to sign for Leeds in 1999 from Chelsea but faced more completion for a place in the team from the likes of Jonathan Woodgate, Dom Matteo, Lucas Radebe and Rio Ferdinand. However, he played the full 90 minutes in a memorable 1-0 win over AC Milan at Elland Road. Duberry remained with the Whites until 2004 and played 75 times for the club, scoring four goals. Towards the end of his career, he made the move to Oxford United in 2011 and played two seasons for the Yellows. He netted three goals and made 50 appearances and left in 2013.

MIDFIELDER:

Lewis Bate

The midfielder signed for Leeds in July 2021 from Chelsea and made his senior debut in an FA Cup defeat against West Ham in January 2022. Overall, he made four first team appearances in all competitions before joining Stockport County on a permanent deal. Bate joined Oxford on loan from Leeds at the start of the 2022-23 campaign and went on to score once and play 35 times for the club.

MIDFIELDER:

Alex Mowatt

A Leeds United youth academy graduate, Mowatt came through the ranks at Leeds and went on to feature in 125 games and net 13 goals for his boyhood club between 2013 and 2017. He signed for Barnsley in January 2017 and was sent out on loan to Oxford ahead of the 2017-18 season. The midfielder scored three goals and made 35 appearances before returning to his parent club.

MIDFIELDER:

Joe Rothwell

After turning down a contract from Manchester United, a 21 year old Rothwell signed for Oxford United ahead of the 2016-17 campaign and remained with the club until 2018. He made 86 appearances and scored 8 goals before joining Blackburn Rovers. Rothwell signed for Leeds on loan from Bournemouth at the beginning of the 2024-25 season and, so far, has 20 appearances to his name.

MIDFIELDER:

Sonny Perkins

Signed from West Ham in 2022, the current Leeds player currently has three appearances and one goal to his name. His goal came against Cardiff City in a 2-2 FA Cup draw in January 2023. The midfielder joined the Yellows on loan in August 2023 but returned to Leeds in January. During his time with the club, he scored one goal and made six appearances in all competitions.

FORWARD:

Tyler Roberts

During his West Brom days, Roberts was sent out on a short term loan to Oxford at the start of the 2016-17 campaign. The Welshman scored two goals in 22 games in all competitions before returning to his parent club in January 2017. A number of other loan spells soon followed before Leeds signed the forward in 2018. He went on to become part of the Leeds side that achieved promotion back to the Premier League in 2020 and, overall, netted 9 goals in 108 appearances before departing in 2023.

FORWARD:

Imre Varardi

Howard Wilkinson signed Varardi for the third time in his managerial career back in 1990 for Leeds United. Originally bought as cover for the injured Bobby Davison and Carl Shutt, Varadi was not a first team regular at Leeds, but made several appearances as substitute during both the promotion and Championship winning seasons. He scored five goals in 26 games for the Whites. Oxford signed the forward on loan from Leeds in 1993 where made just five appearances for the Yellows before returning to his parent club.

FORWARD:

Derek Lilley

Scottish striker Lilley made the move from Greenock Morton to Leeds back in 1997 where he scored one goal in 21 appearances for the Whites - a winner in a 3-2 away win against Barnsley where he replaced Lee Bowyer. After a couple of loan spells away from the club, he signed for Oxford in 1999 where he played for the next two seasons. During his time there, he netted 10 goals in 76 games before returning to Scotland.

FORWARD:

Kemar Roofe

Like Tyler Roberts, he was also sent out on loan to Oxford during his West Bromwich Albion days. Roofe initially joined the Yellows on loan in January 2015 but signed permanently ahead of the 2015-16 campaign where he achieved promotion to League One. Leeds secured his signature the following season and would remain at Elland Road for the next three seasons. He played 123 games and netted on 33 occasions for the Whites.
