Pierre Sage admits regrets but has defended his side’s performance as Olympique Lyonnais battled to a goalless draw away to RC Lens.
It has been a slow start to the campaign for Sage’s men. Les Gones lost their first two matches to begin the season against Stade Rennais and AS Monaco. However, there were more positive signs ahead of the international break for the club.
Lyon earned their first points with a thrilling comeback victory against RC Strasbourg Alsace, and there were hopes that the club could build some momentum coming into their trip to the Stade Bollaert-Delelis with another attacking display.
Despite the scoreline, Sage was keen to defend his team’s performance arguing that were plenty of positives to take from the draw, “We played a good match, seriously. We created opportunities that should have allowed us to transform our game into a victory. But we did not seize them. That is my regret.”
Next weekend, Lyon will play Olympique de Marseille in a hotly anticipated Choc des Olympiques. The timing of this derby is not ideal for Lyon with their arch-rivals in strong from ahead of the Sunday night fixture.
