Sunday’s showdown between Barcelona and Real Madrid had major implications when it comes to the race for this year’s Pichichi.

This comes after Kylian Mbappé added to his tally by way of a hat-trick.

Real Madrid of course made the trip to Catalunya earlier today, for a top-of-the-table La Liga meeting with arch rivals Barcelona.

When all was said and done, Los Blancos were condemned to the wrong side of a 4-3 result.

Summer signing Mbappé, though, managed to come away from Montjuïc with his head held high. This came after the France international notched all three of his side’s goals.

And in the process, Mbappé carved out a clear advantage for himself in the race to be named this season’s La Liga top scorer.

Heading into the latest round of fixtures, the 26-year-old trailed Barcelona frontman Robert Lewandowski by a solitary goal atop the Pichichi standings.

Now, though, Mbappé sits two clear in top spot, with 27 league goals to his name.
