Peter Crouch celebrates his 42nd birthday today.

It’s now three-and-a-half years since the former England international retired from football and he’s managed to fit a heck of a lot in during that relativity short period of time.

Crouchy is the star of a hugely successful podcast, he’s written two books and been involved in not one but two ‘Crouchfests’ – the most-recent of which took place at Wembley Arena – all while working as a pundit for BT Sport.

During retirement, Crouch has further cemented his reputation as one of the most universally popular figures in football.

You won’t find many current or former footballers who don’t take themselves too seriously, which is why Crouch’s self-deprecating humour is so refreshing – and why he’s now a national treasure.

Crouch made everyone laugh with answer to UCL questions

Although we all love Crouchy, there’s evidence to suggest that you wouldn’t want him on your quiz team – especially if there was a Champions League round involved.

On two occasions, Crouch has left viewers in stitches after being asked Champions League-related questions on BT Sport.

Back in April 2021, Crouch made everyone laugh by forgetting that he once scored in both legs of a Champions League quarter-final.

BT Sport presented Jake Humphrey said: “Right: quiz time. Phil Foden is the fifth English player to score in both legs of a Champions League quarter-final. Can anyone name any of the other four?”

Despite being given the names Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Raheem Sterling, and a lot of hints from Humphrey, poor old Crouch still didn’t manage to get the answer.

Burned by that experience, Crouch found himself in a similar situation 12 months later while covering a Champions League match.

Asked to name the last Liverpool player who scored a Champions League semi-final goal at Anfield, Crouch totally forgot about the Reds’ extraordinary 4-0 win over Barcelona and answered: “Was it me, yeah?”

Classic.

Never change, Crouchy! Never change.
