As the January transfer window rolls on Manchester City’s hunt for a midfielder continues. To date, the Premier League champions haven’t signed a midfielder to bolster their engine room. But a new report indicates that Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz could be a target for Manchester City. On closer inspection, it may be a move worth considering for the world champions based on how tough the January transfer window is to navigate.
Danny Rust and Dean Jones have reported for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City could consider a loan move for Douglas Luiz. The report suggests that if City continue to be frustrated in their search for a midfielder they may turn their attention to the Juventus midfielder.
If Manchester City can’t sign a midfielder this month a loan move for Douglas Luiz does make sense. The Brazilian midfielder was a key player for Aston Villa before he moved to Juventus last summer. He is Premier League-proven, and his defensive work, technical ability and work rate would immediately improve Manchester City’s midfield. Douglas Luiz has failed to make an impression so far this season for Juventus. So he could be a player that is available on a loan deal this month.
During his time at Aston Villa Douglas Luiz showed just how good a player he had become. His ability going forward was an often overlooked aspect of his play. His passing ability is also a prominent feature of his play. He isn’t a game-breaker like Kevin De Bruyne, but for a holding midfielder, his ability to play progressive passes stands out. Luiz is also deadly from dead-ball situations which would be an asset to Pep Guardiola’s squad. Defensively, Douglas Luiz is energetic and read the games well. He is also strong in a challenge and those assets would be welcome additions to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
A loan move for Douglas Luiz may be an avenue for Manchester City to pursue this month. He would fill a void in City’s midfield while they prepare to sign a midfielder next summer. It could prove to be a low-risk move worth pursuing for the Premier League champions as they bid to bolster their midfield for the second half of the season.
