Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi admits being in the Scudetto race is ‘extraordinary’ with 12 rounds to go and they will ‘see what happens, one game at a time.’

The match with Venezia kicks off at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo at 14.00 GMT.

“There are 12 rounds to go, it will be very difficult today because Venezia are in good shape, so we will need the best Atalanta to bring home a result,” Percassi told DAZN.

With the head-to-head between Napoli and Inter kicking off at 17.00 GMT, it is entirely possible that Atalanta could find themselves joint second this evening, one point behind the leaders.

Even after winning the Europa League last season and becoming a consistent figure in the top four of Serie A in recent years, did La Dea think they’d be in the Scudetto race with 12 rounds to go?

“We’ll see one game at a time what happens. Let’s say that over the summer we thought that we had given the coach a competitive squad,” added Percassi.

“We already have more points than last season, but the campaign is built one game at a time. I’d say that already today Atalanta’s position is extraordinary, so to stay in this zone would be another triumph for this club, but we also leave no stone unturned.”

The injury crisis has badly affected their campaign, as they are still missing Odilon Kossounou, Isak Hien, Gianluca Scamacca and Giorgio Scalvini.

However, Daniel Maldini is on the bench after he picked up an injury soon after the January transfer from Monza.

“Maldini had a lot of offers and wanted to come to Atalanta, we are glad to have brought him to the club, he is young, Italian and a good guy who showed from the first day he is ideal for our project,” concluded Percassi.
