A decision is anticipated sooner rather than later

Manchester City are imminently expecting a verdict on the 115 charges for alleged financial breaches.

The club, who have denied any wrongdoing, were charged by the Premier League in February 2023 for both alleged serious financial wrongdoing and allegedly failing to co-operate with investigations into their finances.

City were last year able to present their defence over a 10-week trial and now a verdict is expected soon.

Speaking in February, City manager Pep Guardiola said: "In one month, I think there will be a verdict and a sentence. After that, we will see my opinion of what happened so far."

The i reports that a verdict is expected before the end of the season.

Premier League chiefs are expected to push for punishment which will act as a deterrent to other clubs, should they be able to make any charges stick to City.

As reported last September, several sources have suggested a points deduction in the region of 30. The likelihood of Premier League bosses dishing out any retrospective punishments as regards removing titles and trophies is understood to appear remote.

Former Manchester United player Paul Scholes expects City to be docked points rather than a relegation.

He said: “It’s hard to say what would be a fair punishment for Manchester City if they were found guilty – just as long as it’s fair.

“Nottingham Forest and Everton have had punishments as well, so as long as it’s along those fair lines. I’m not saying it has to be the same as Everton and Forest, but I think it will be points.”
