According to a report from RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, free agent Paul Pogba is reportedly willing to take a wage cut in order to join Olympique de Marseille. This comes after Marseille director of Football Mehdi Benatia admitted in an interview with L’Équipe that Les Phocéens considered a move for the 2018 World Cup winner in the winter transfer window. If the Juventus and Manchester United man is to move to the Vélodrome, OM would have to wait until the summer. Hawkins reports that Pogba was contacted by Marseille this winter and the potential arrival of the midfielder was green-lit by head coach Roberto De Zerbi. Pogba had reportedly shown a willingness to take a wage cut, in the understanding that it would be difficult to negotiate anywhere near his previous deal with Juventus before his suspension from sporting activities. The Frenchman’s future remains in the balance after his four-year doping ban was reduced to 18 months upon appeal at the end of 2024. In practical terms, it means Pogba has been allowed to train since the start of January, and can in theory resume playing in March. GFFN | George Boxall
