Cole Palmer has admitted he was ‘confused’ by the presence of Donald Trump in the centre of Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup celebrations.
Chelsea were crowned world champions on Sunday evening after beating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the tournament’s final.
Palmer was named man of the match after scoring twice and providing an assist at the MetLife Stadium, but found himself somewhat in the shadows of the president of the United States during the trophy lift.
Palmer, authentic as ever, looked visibly confused by Trump’s presence next to Chelsea captain Reece James for the celebrations. The 22-year-old revealed his confusion at sharing the stage with the president.
“I knew he was going to be here,” Palmer said in a post-match press conference.
“But I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand as we lifted the trophy, so I was a bit confused, yeah.”
