Over/Under for the Rest of the LA Galaxy's Regular Season

Another tie against LAFC this season now brings the LA Galaxy's record to 3-7-14. They still reside in the basement of the MLS Western Conference standings.

This is shocking considering it was this time last year that both LA-based MLS teams were battling for the West's top seed. Instead, only LAFC appears to be making the playoffs this season between the two soccer clubs.

"There is too many careless things. That's why we are here where we are. Of course, I can't be happy for the season so far, but we still have a chance to go to the playoff. Next game is very important again. Every game is important now for us."Maya Yoshida, LA Galaxy defender

Not everyone in the Los Angeles Galaxy's locker room has given up yet on this season. Specifically commenting on such after Saturday's game, captain and veteran defender Maya Yoshida expressed that his team still has a chance.

With that being said, let's take a look at some of the potential over and unders for the rest of the regular season.

The LA Galaxy win eight games this season.

Oof! The 16-game winless streak to start the 2025 MLS season didn't help matters. Botched games like the 1-0 road upset to Sporting Kansas City and the foiled efforts to win 3-2 against St. Louis City are coming back to hurt the defending MLS Cup champs on this one.

The first match mentioned resulted in a loss and the second one a draw. Two more wins would give the LA Galaxy a total of five on the season and not three.

A 1-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes earlier in the season and the 1-1 draw at home against the Houston Dynamo also could have went the other way given.

In 2023, the Los Angeles Galaxy only won eight games that season. To match that total, the six-time MLS Cup winners need to win half of their remaining ten games.

For a team that has only won three out of 24 games in 2025, we're taking the under here. However, it could be close given matches against Kansas City and Houston still to play.

Who is the LA Galaxy's leading scorer at the end of the season?

A season ago, Serbian forward Dejan Joveljic was the team's leading scorer. He had 15 goals, one less than Gabriel Pec.

His ACL tear and surgery during the 2024 MLS Western Conference Finals kept this star midfielder out of action this season. Riqui Puig had 13 goals during the regular season last year. He doubled his total from 2023 (seven goals).

Following the 3-3 draw against LAFC on Saturday, Pec tied up Marco Reus at five goals a piece. Both players have missed time due to injuries.

Depending on which one can stay on the field longer stands the better chance of taking over the lead after all 34 games. On this one, we are going with the more consistent scorer, Marco Reus.

We predict he will have nine goals or more. That would mean he only has to score four more times to accomplish this.

One more veteran for the LA Galaxy get benched by the end of the year.

We're taking the over on this one, easily. Here's why.

The Los Angeles Galaxy has already benched two this season. They inserted Novak Micovic back in as the team's starting goalie for John McCarthy. Not only was the veteran keeper the starter last year, he was also the 2022 MLS Cup Finals MVP when he was with LAFC.

The former Columbus Crew forward that the LA Galaxy signed started the season hot. Christian Ramirez had four goals in the team's first quarter of the schedule. Unfortunately, he hasn't seen much playing time.

"Yeah, we have to look forward. We have no other solution. We are still last I guess. So this is not our ambition. So I don't know how many points until the playoff place, but, yeah. I mean, in the last weeks we didn't lose that much games. Today, like I said, it shows again the mentality of the team, but our goal has to be and is, yeah, win all games. Because, yeah, we are not giving up until it's over. "Marco Reus, LA Galaxy midfielder

McCarthy and Ramirez are both free agents after this season. So are defenders Eriq Zavaleta, John Nelson and Mauricio Cuevas. To see what value these three may have, the LA Galaxy could sit their pair of Japanese-born defenders, Maya Yoshida and Miki Yamane.

Those two are more than 30 years old and under contract past this season. To rest their legs and prevent major injuries like Puig's from happening may be a solid move by head coach Greg Vanney.

Furthermore, if midfielder Edwin Cerrillo continues to struggle defensively or remain a non-factor in the offense, Vanney could relish him to bench, too. The LA Galaxy could start Lucas Sanabria or Elijah Wydner over Cerrillo.

Marco Reus will record more than 10 assists this year.

Yes, yes, and yes! Why not? He is just two away with ten games to play.

Last season, the LA Galaxy not only had four players on their roster who scored at least 10 goals or more, but they also had a pair of players record at least 10 assists.

Gabriel Pec and Joseph Paintsil accomplished both feats. This season, Reus looks to be the only player on the LA Galaxy that's even close.

In his first full season with the Los Angeles Galaxy, we expect Rues to finish with 12 asssits. That's four more between Friday against the Houston Dynamo and the last game of the season against Minnesota United FC.
