Liverpool claimed one of their easiest wins of the season so far as they beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 on Sunday.

Goals from all three of their front line were enough to send the Reds above Manchester City, for the time being, and into third place in the Premier League.

Continued brilliance

Are Liverpool currently the best team in the Premier League?

Tottenham fans certainty might not say so, but Jürgen Klopp’s side really are showing that last season’s blip was just that.

Everything is clicking with the Reds right now and they completely tore Nottingham Forest apart.

Steve Cooper has turned Forest into a competitive and often hard-to-beat Premier League side over the past one and a bit seasons.

But here they were made to look like top flight amateurs, such was Liverpool’s total dominance over proceedings.

The Reds got three goals in the end but it really could have been a cricket score by full-time as Liverpool showed just why they’re genuine title contenders this time around.

We’re a third of a way through the season now and finally it seems like Liverpool have found their first-choice midfield.

The double exit of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson caused Jürgen Klopp a fair few headaches this summer with the Reds boss having to change the middle of his side a lot earlier than he would have liked.

But thanks to some incredibly insightful recruitment, the Anfield side have got themselves a midfield to be proud of.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai have been in the side from the start, but they way they’ve adjusted has been incredibly impressive.

Szoboszlai in particular has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water and is already one of the signings of the season.

The third part of this brilliant triumvirate is Ryan Gravenberch and the Netherlands international is clearly now one of the first names on the team sheet too.

Klopp was full of praise for Gravenberch after their win over Toulouse in midweek and the former Ajax graduate impressed with his physicality and tactical acumen up against Forest as well.

Liverpool will go a long way this season with these three anchoring things in midfield.

Forget and move on

As for Forest, it’s hard to take anything positive out of this performance.

Of course, an away trip to Anfield could be seen as a free hit for Cooper’s side with very little expectation on their shoulders.

But they really were totally outplayed by Salah and co as things started badly in the first half and went downhill from there.

Forest claimed just 27 per cent of possession, had just one shot on goal and never looked like threatening at any point.

Morgan Gibbs-White was perhaps the sole bright spark but even that is clutching at straws.

Forest would do well to forget this game in a hurry and move on swiftly.
