Manchester City fans fondly remember the 2011/12 season for the beautiful chaos it unleashed as much as their long-awaited Premier League title success.

Central to both was Mario Balotelli, who was already gaining a reputation as a unique character heading into his second full season at the Etihad Stadium.

It's fair to say that the Italian lived up to that billing with a number of antics, including his infamous 'Why Always Me?' vest celebration in the Manchester derby.

But the roots for that memorable mantra all started way back in pre-season.

City took on LA Galaxy as part of the World Football Challenge and looked set to double their lead when Balotelli surged towards goal midway through the first half.

But with only the goalkeeper to beat, he went for the spectacular and attempted to backheel the ball into the net, sending it rolling past the post by several feet.

Balotelli's teammates were visibly exasperated, as was Roberto Mancini when he hooked his compatriot a matter of minutes later, complete with a dressing down.

Balotelli would enjoy the last laugh with a starring role in City's title-winning run, including teeing up Sergio AgĂŒero's iconic clinching goal against QPR.
