Gabriele Oriali hopes Antonio Conte continues at Napoli and reveals he tells the Italian coach not to quit ‘every single day.’
Napoli are celebrating their second title in three years around the streets of Naples and the protagonists of the Scudetto-winning campaign have been talking to the media about their achievement and future.
Oriali, an Inter legend and one of Conte’s closest collaborators, spoke to RAI during the open-top bus parade on Monday afternoon.
Oriali already worked with Conte at Inter and the Italy national team.
Inter Milan’s coach Antonio Conte (C), Inter Milan’s team manager Gabriele Oriali (2-R) and team members celebrate with the Italian Championship trophy after the Italian Serie A soccer match between FC Inter and Udinese at Giuseppe Meazza stadium in Milan, Italy, 23 May 2021 (re-issued on 26 May 2021).
“Fortunately, it’s a combination that works, given the results we are achieving. Napeolitan people are priceless, they deserve all this,” said the former Italy midfielder, a 1982 World Cup winner via TMW.
“They welcomed us with warmth, and we could only return the favour.”
Multiple reports in Italy claim Conte will leave Napoli after just one season and likely return to Juventus.
“I hope there’s still a chance. I still don’t know what the coach will do, but I hope he can continue here for more years, especially because I’ve had a great time, and so has my family,” insisted Oriali.
The reporter asked Oriali if he had ever told Conte to stay at the Stadio Maradona.
“Always, every single day,” he replied.
Napoli will visit the Pope in Rome on Tuesday, and then Conte and Aurelio De Laurentiis will meet to determine the future.
