Part of a full midweek programme of Premier League matches, this is the 30th round of PL games.

Last night, a couple of big results for teams looking to qualify for the Champions League spots.

Arsenal surviving a late scare to win 2-1 at home to Fulham, whilst Forest took an early lead at the City Ground and thanks to some great defending and woeful Man U attacking threat and finishing, held on for a massive 1-0 victory.

Eddie Howe’s side are home to Palace tonight, with also Bournemouth v Ipswich, Man City v Leicester and Brighton v Villa amongst Wednesday’s other matches. With then Chelsea v Spurs on Thursday night.

So, where do you now see Newcastle United fitting in when it comes to the end of the season?

This is how the Premier League table currently (Wednesday 2 April 2025) looks:

When it comes to predicting what that final Premier League table will look like after the 38th round of fixtures in May 2025, Opta have done some updated analysis following those Tuesday night matches.

Using their latest data simulations, Opta analysis has shown this as the most likely 2024/25 Premier League table come the end of the season – Predicted table as at 2 April 2025:

The Opta data predictions model now sees Arsenal basically guaranteed (99.92%) top four and Champions League football, along with Liverpool.

That huge result for Forest seeing them predicted (81.6%) as almost there as well, in terms of top four and Champions League.

So when it comes to Newcastle United, Opta currently believe NUFC most likely to finish fifth this season.

Still so tight though when it comes to these data based Opta predictions, with the forecast of Man City fourth (65.92 points prediction), fifth Newcastle United (65.79 points) and sixth Chelsea (65.28 points).

It just shows how tight it is, with the final prediction seeing less than three points covering the three clubs that Opta predict to finish between fourth and sixth.

The Opta model currently predicting a 26.43% chance of Newcastle United qualifying for the Champions League via finishing top four and a 22.76% chance of ending up in the Europa League.

However, the reality is that Newcastle United have a much higher chance of Champions League football than via that top four prediction, as it will be top five who qualify.

It is now ‘virtually impossible‘ for the Premier League not to get one of the two extra Champions League places, based on collective results in Europe this season for all leagues.

We are all of course still coming to terms with Newcastle United winning that first trophy in a ‘little’ while.

However, that victory at West Ham in our last Premier League match has helped make the outlook very positive for potential Champions League qualification on top of that Carabao Cup victory!

Now a case of just having to follow through on that, starting tonight against Brentford at St James’ Park. With then all but relegated already Leicester away from home to follow, then home games against Man U and Palace after that, these next four matches a massive chance for Newcastle to put themselves in a powerful position.
