Currently without a club, M’Baye Niang opened up in an interview with Carré. The Senegal international reflected on the summer transfer window that followed Stade Rennais’ French Cup triumph over PSG. During that transfer period, he came close to joining Olympique de Marseille, who tabled a €20 million offer. However, the arrival of Pablo Longoria at OM changed everything.

M’Baye Niang was then loaned to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia before joining Bordeaux on a free transfer the following season.

"To tell you the truth, I was already at OM in my mind," he revealed. "My agent spoke to me about it, and I told him: 'Yes, I want it.' Because there was a €20 million offer, I believe. I told Olivier Létang: 'If that’s the case, I’m asking you for a favor, having just won the Coupe de France against Paris with Rennes, to do me this small favor so I can join OM.' He said he would never block me. I had crazy offers—offers from China for €10 million net, offers from everywhere, Qatar for €5 million net—I didn’t even need to do the math. But I had only one thing in mind: to go to Marseille because my two children were born here, my wife is from here. I thought: 'Why not?' Why not take on this challenge, because I have the character, and Balotelli did it. So I told myself: 'If Balotelli succeeded, I can only succeed.' And with the same sponsors as OM, at the end of the season, when I left, I learned that my boots were already at La Commanderie. That’s why people started talking about whether I was coming or not... And in the meantime, Pablo Longoria arrived. So after that, it turned out that the plans changed a bit. At first, things were on stand-by, and then they went for Mitroglou. I didn’t really understand, but that’s football... But it should have been me." the Senegalese forward declared.
