Eagles return to Wembley for first time since FA Cup triumph on Sunday

Oliver Glasner has confirmed he has not been in talks with Crystal Palace over a new contract.

The Austrian guided Palace to their first-ever major piece of silverware last season by winning the FA Cup, but progress has yet to be made in negotiations over a new deal.

"No, [there have been] no negotiations," Glasner admitted, speaking ahead of the Community Shield this Sunday.

"At the moment, it was three weeks to get the squad done. [The] contract is not important at the moment."

Palace have brought in just two players this summer, with goalkeeper Walter Benitez and left-back Borna Sosa replacing departing loanees Matt Turner and Ben Chilwell.

The Eagles' lack of transfer activity has been a major source of frustration for Glasner, and he has hinted that the next three weeks of the transfer window will dictate whether or not he signs a new contract.

"We will see (if the club's lack of transfer activity impacts contract talks)," the 50-year-old said.

Glasner confirmed striker Eddie Nketiah will be out for up to three months with a hamstring injury, while Matheus Franca and midfielder Cheick Doucoure are also set for prolonged periods on the sidelines.

"Nketiah, he missed more or less the whole pre-season because on the second day of pre-season he had a small injury and now he has a more serious injury and will be out for eight weeks and then without any pre-season I think it will take him three, four more weeks at least to be ready, so it's three months at all.

"Matheus Franca, unfortunately, [is] injured again. [He] missed the whole pre-season after being injured more or less the last two years.

"Cheick had a setback. We don't know when he will return. He's still not able to train.

"We are short of numbers, and if we want to be competitive in all four competitions, what we want to be, we have to add players, and especially we have to add players with quality.

Glasner believes Palace need at least two more signings, one in defence and one in attack, if they are to be able to compete in four competitions next season, and said the club, who signed players late into last year's transfer window, had again been too passive in the market.

Glasner is adamant he doesn't want more investment from Palace's owners to secure his future at the club. Instead, asserting that he is offering advice on how Palace should approach their first season in European competition.

"It's not that I want investment. It's about Crystal Palace,” Glasner said.

“What I say is my expertise and my advice is what Crystal Palace should do to be competitive in four competitions. If somebody thinks that's nonsense, okay, let's see. That's it."

Palace take on Premier League champions Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday, with the club eyeing up their second trophy in the space of four months.

Glory at the home of football is front and centre of Glasner's thinking, but uncertainty continues to linger as Palace gear up for the new campaign.
