Portuguese attacker Tiago Tomas’ return to VfB Stuttgart has been officially confirmed. Kicker reports that the final transfer fee should total around €14m once some easily attainable performance bonuses are met. The 23-year-old’s new contract in the Baden-Württemberg capital runs through 2029. Tomas’ former club of Sporting CP also benefit from a 15 percent re-sale clause secured when Tomas was sold to Wolfsburg two years ago.

Tomas scored eight goals in 47 competitive appearances for the Swabians during his 18-month loan-stint with Stuttgart between January 2022 and the summer of 2023. Both club and player made secret of the fact that they wished to continue the collaboration, but a €15m purchase option proved too expensive at the time. Tomas – who no longer enjoyed favorable prospects at Wolfsburg – was welcomed back to BaWü with much fanfare.

Tiago brings a lot of qualities to the table,” VfB sporting director Christian Gentner noted in a club statement. “He’s fast, a strong dribbler, and possesses excellent technique. With these skills, he not only fits in very well with our playing style, but will also render our attack more versatile and more effective.

I am delighted to be able to play for VfB again in the future,” the player himself added. “I am very happy that the transfer has gone through and I am looking forward to working with the whole team. VfB has developed enormously since I last played here.
