Samuel Mbangula’s transfer to Werder Bremen has been officially confirmed. The now former Juventus FC professional moves to the Bundesliga on a record €10m deal. Mbangula is Werder’s second most expensive purchase ever. Only Davy Klaasen’s €13.5m purchase in 2018 cost the Bundesliga outfit more.

Werder’s pursuit of Mbangula intensified after injuries to a trio of attackers left newly appointed head coach Horst Steffen with dwindling options. Prior to this deal, Bremen remained extremely quiet on the transfer front this summer. Only Mbangula and Leeds defender Maximilian Wöber have been brought in.

“We see a lot of potential in him,” SV licensing head Peter Niemeyer noted of his new signing in a club statement. “He proved his quality at the highest level with the Juventus professionals last season. We have always said that we are willing to invest if we are convinced of a player and his potential. That is absolutely the case with Samuel.”

“Samuel brings good pace to the team,” Steffen himself added. “He is very well trained in terms of football and tactics and can play in several positions in attack. He’ll thus make our game more flexible.“
